MEET THE OWNERS
Rene & Rose
Our story began 6 years ago with a shared passion for local food systems and community. Rose, born and raised in Grass Valley, has been a biodynamic farmer for nearly 20 years, growing exceptional produce for top Bay Area restaurants before returning home to Nevada County to establish Blue Dane Garden. Rene, a Colombian native with a visual arts degree & 15 years of local culinary experience, brings his artistry & bold flavors to every dish.
We collaborated over a shared love of food integrity, seasonality, and sustainability, and in 2020, we turned a challenge into an opportunity. Rose’s drive-through farm stand blossomed, while Rene’s Friday pop-up lunches became a cherished community tradition. It was here that Comedor was born — a celebration of Rene’s Colombian roots and the bounty of local produce, served up with creativity, care, and flavor that’s good for the soul.
Thanks to your incredible support, we’re taking the next step and opening our permanent home for Comedor in Grass Valley. We’re inviting our community to join us in creating a space where every meal feels like a celebration of connection, well-being, and vibrant flavors.

Do your taste buds a favor and visit Comedor! The arepa with pork belly is stunning. The texture of the arepa with the melted cheese is drool worthy. I cannot get enough of this place.
